FREQUENTY ASKED QUESTIONS

Can I register the day of the Event?

Yes, you can regsiter the same day, but you save time by pre-registering.

Where are the water stations located on the course?

Water stations will be located on the John Muir trail where the connector breaks off and also at Emma Carlin as the trail nears the parking lot.

Are maps available that show the course?

Yes, there is a map (PDF) for the 30 Mile Ride, 25 Mile Ride, 14 Mile Ride and 5 Mile Ride. If you have questions regarding which loops to take for your event, please ask at the Registration table or contact us

Do I need a vehicle sticker and trail pass?

Yes, the DNR requires a vehicle sticker and trail pass. You can purchase both the day of the event. If you're volunterring, a vehicle pass will be provided.

Is there a cut-off time for the 30 Mile Course?

No time cut-off for 30 mile racers. The 30 mile Race Leaders will take about 2:00 hours to complete the Race. The chances of the slower Racers meeting the Leaders on the short two-way section is remote. If they do, it is the same as it is on our Trails every day. The section is well marked as a two-way section, so riders/racers please ‘Be Aware’.

Will the horse gates on the connector trail remain up?

Yes, the horse gates will remain up.  The FCF Race is a Race on the existing Trails as they are.  Just like every other day.  This is an area where Racers could meet head on, but they will be walking, not riding.  It could be disastrous if a Racer runs into a horse rider who inadvertently got on the bike trail.

Since the 30 Mile event crosses roads will traffic be stopped?

No, traffic will NOT be stopped, but volunteers will be at each crossing. Racers MUST yield to traffic!

Is there a Father and Son Event?

No, I happen to have a photo of a father and son participating in the Fall Color Festival, but there is not a separate category.

Where do the funds for the event go?

Money raised directly benefits this trail system. The Fall Color Festival Committee makes donations throughout the year for trail work.

Is there a trail information line?

Yes, you can call the DNR 24-7 to find out about trail conditions. (262) 594-6202.

Can the event be canceled due to weather?

Yes, during and immediately following heavy rain fall the trails may be closed to prevent damage. If the weather causes the event to be canceled, both the trail information hotline and this website will be updated.

If I'm NOT participating in this event can I still ride the trails?

The John Muir trail system will be closed from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m to anyone NOT participating in the Fall Color Festival. The Emma Carlin remains open for the entire day, but you should be aware of other riders.
